Registration Open for CEPM’s Green Building and Design Summer Institute

Receiving $125,000 in grants from the Claude Worthington Benedum and FirstEnergy foundations, Washington & Jefferson College’s Center for Energy Policy & Management (CEPM) will introduce a new Green Building & Design Institute this summer.

The program is supported by $75,000 in educational funds from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, and $50,000 in “Investing with Purpose” funds from the FirstEnergy Foundation. The Green Building & Design Institute—an extension of existing training which enables W&J students to earn a LEED credential (a denotation of professional proficiency in design and construction)—will serve as a college and professional readiness program for local high school students, and create equitable pathways in green building and design industries.

Throughout the program, participants will work with current W&J students, faculty, and staff to learn about the basics of green design, gain exposure to different careers in the green building field, and create a public awareness/outreach campaign about the importance of sustainability design and construction jobs in western Pennsylvania. Throughout the program, students will hear from professionals working in the field and have the opportunity to travel to different sites in our region to learn about new and exciting green building projects.

The program will run Monday-Friday, June 12-June 23, 2023, 9 am to 2 pm. Cost of attendance is free, but space is limited. Lunch will be provided to participants at no cost to families. For more information about the program or to register, visit the Center’s website, www.wjenergy.org/summer
