Nuclear Fusion Technology Roadmap to Spur Development
As the demand for energy continues to rise rapidly to meet expanding data and artificial intelligence needs and increasing electrification, interest in nuclear power has been resurrected. Existing nuclear power technology in use at a number of nuclear reactors around the country is based on fission, which involves splitting atoms to create power. But fusion has long been seen as the ultimate nuclear goal, where energy is created by fusing atoms together , creating a chain rea

CEPM Releases National Energy Literacy Survey Results
Just one in three Americans are confident they can explain how data centers impact the nation’s energy demand, a recent survey conducted by the Center for Energy Policy and Management at Washington & Jefferson College found. The results are detailed in a new report available at wjenergy.org/resources . The national energy literacy survey was distributed randomly to 1,263 people across the country, and its results have a 3% margin of error. Overall, about four in 10 Americans

PJM: Adequate Power Capacity for Winter Heating Season
PJM, the regional electric grid operator for 13 Mid-Atlantic states, says it will have enough power capacity to serve its 67 million customers this winter, but continues to warn that demand for electricity is rising faster than new generation is being added. Power consumption rises during the winter months due to heating needs, and extreme weather can also cause generation outages. This winter PJM expects to have 180,800 megawatts (MW) of capacity and is forecasting peak ele

Report: Electric Customers Paying Upgrade Costs for Data Centers
Electric customers in seven PJM states, including Pennsylvania, paid more than $4.3 billion in data center transmission costs in 2024, a new report found. The report from the Union of Concerned Scientists said that the costs, for local transmission upgrades made to provide transmission service directly to data centers, have contributed to rising electric bills due to a “loophole” in the current regulatory structure. The Union of Concerned Scientists is an advocacy group tha
